statement

As a student who is constantly working with art, whether it is painting, making sculptures or taking photos of buildings, I was drawn by the fact that MSA offers the chance of creating things in many studio – based projects that involve drawing and modelling. Overall, I think that MSA is the ideal university for me and what I desire to gain through studying architecture because it covers the subject by every point of view, theoretical, technological and practical. Since I would like to explore more branches of architecture and develop my studies into something more artistic I find that MSA is the right university to help me construct a more diverse knowledge in architecture and help me achieve my dream.
A recent building that I visited was one in Thessaloniki, which I visited during the Open House event when many buildings in my city open for a weekend and make it a huge “art exhibition”. What I liked about it the most was the modern aesthetic that it created due to the use of materials like visible cement. Furthermore, what I found interesting was the fact that the architect had pay so much attention to the sun and how they could take advantage of it. So they had used material so that no heating or air condition would be needed. That was when I realized how many aspects of everyday life an architect thinks about before designing a building.
I can say that I really struggled to find a favorite architect despite the fact that I read many books about architecture history, but once I saw Zaha Hadid’s work I immediately knew that she was my favorite. I really admire her work because she focuses on geometry and rhythm to create these masterpieces. I relate to her because I also like mathematics and especially geometry. Hadid uses simple yet aesthetically pleasing designs, which I think is the most important and difficult part of architecture. Aesthetics is an area that fascinates me because it is the philosophy behind the beauty of a building and you have to combine different elements such as balance or symmetry, two of my favorite elements of art.
Lastly, a building that I would love to visit is Heydar Aliyev in Baku, Azerbaijan, which was designed by Zaha Hadid. Movement is the dominant element of this work since it seems like the whole building is on a constant movement. Also, characteristics such as balance and harmony are apparent due to the use of geometry in her work. I think that if I entered this building I would feel woe by its aesthetics.
